Welcome to North Lake College and the ABST Academic Division!

I hope you have all had a restful, enjoyable summer.  As we begin preparations for a new academic year, I send a warm… actually, HOT Texas Welcome to all of you!

We are delighted to begin this new academic year far from the shadows of SACS!  As you may have heard, North Lake has been reaffirmed by SACS with no follow-up items required.  What great news!  And much of this good news is due to the excellent efforts of you, our faculty.  Thank you so much for all of your hard work and dedication!

Of course, this doesn’t mean that we now ignore our SACS requirements.  We will need to respond to a 5th year report in 2018.  This report primarily addresses system level (District related) concerns and not specifically academic concerns.  However, we will continue to collect and document SLO data on an annual basis (each spring semester).  We will also be working to implement and gather results from our Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP): “I Read.”  Finally we must continue to maintain our faculty credentialing efforts in order to maintain stellar academic credentials.

Another positive result of our SACS reaccreditation assessment is the addition of several new faculty in order to maintain a healthy student/faculty ratio.  We are delighted to welcome 4 new full-time faculty and 5 Visiting Scholar faculty to our Division alone.

As many of you may have already discovered, we have finally migrated from GroupWise to Microsoft Outlook for our email system. I am sure this new format will take a little time to get used to; but I am hopeful that you will enjoy the benefits of the new system.  Once you receive notification that your Outlook account has been activated, you can check your mail at You will no longer use your GgoupWise password.  Instead, use your Windows login information ( to sign in. This is the same information you use to sign in to your on campus login. Remember this is not your GroupWise password.

We continue to maintain and update our readily accessible faculty information website for your convenience.  Please check out the information found on the website and bookmark it as an important source of information that can be accessed throughout the year.  You can locate the website at the following address: .

As always, I welcome opportunities to meet with you, listen to your suggestions and concerns, and discuss opportunities to improve our learning environment as we all strive to achieve our goal of being the “College of Choice” for students, faculty and staff.
